Dalvin Cook hasn’t even taken a snap yet for the Minnesota Vikings, but some execs already know he is going to be the top offensive rookie in 2017.

This weekend, the Minnesota Vikings will become one of the first teams to hold their mandatory rookie and free agent mini-camp. One of those players who has made his way to the Twin Cities is Dalvin Cook, the team’s second round choice and one of the best running backs to every put on a uniform for the Florida State Seminoles.

By now, the story line has already been written multiple times about how Dalvin Cook, one of the top running back prospects in the draft, fell all the way down to the 41st pick – otherwise known as the ninth pick of the second round – thanks to a variety of factors…one of them being a jealous person allegedly spreading false rumors about the former FSU star.

While it may have seemed like a bad thing at the time, the growing consensus is that Cook couldn’t have gone to a better team – as he will likely be the team’s starting running back when the open the season on Monday, September 11th against New Orleans. In fact, in a recent NFL.com article, five unnamed team executives were asked who they thought right now would be the league’s Offensive Rookie of The Year.

For two of them, the choice was clearly the right one:

"Executive 1: “Dalvin Cook would be my guess. He landed in a good spot.”Executive 4: “I’ll say Dalvin Cook. The Vikings were a playoff team two years ago and then the wheels came off last year with Teddy (Bridgewater) going down. They’ll play D and run the ball with Cook. Plus, he’ll be motivated after the fall into Round 2.”"

It’s still mind boggling to some – and not just those of us who bleed garnet and gold – that Cook would have fallen into the second day of the Draft. It was a given that LSU’s Leonard Fournette – who was the pick of two other execs – was going to be the top running back taken. But there was almost no excuse for why we had to wait 40 times before finally hearing Cook’s name called the 41st time.

One thing is for certain – you better believe, live executive No. 4 said, Dalvin Cook is going to be motivated to show all the other teams who passed over him what a mistake they made. You can be willing to bet, especially in a division like the NFC North where running the ball is still somewhat important, that everyone is going to get a healthy dose of the man now wearing No. 33.
