FSU baseball put in a solid performance on their way to a victory in a non conference game against the Hatters of Stetson University.

FSU baseball took care of business at home against Stetson on Wednesday; disposing of the Hatters by a score of 7-3. The win was FSU’s third straight and improved their record to 24-15.

A win against Stetson isn’t exactly a resume booster but it’s also not a blemish you want on your overall body of work at the end of the season. Most importantly, the win kept the morale high, and at the moment it seems as high as it’s been all season.

FSU got on the board early on Wednesday when they had two walks and two hits in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Noles would add two more in the 2nd inning on a Taylor Walls double and a monster home run off the bat of Dylan Busby. Stetson answered in the top of the 5th when they scored on a fielder’s choice and then a two run homer to tie the game at 3-3.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dylan Busby left the yard with another no doubter off the video board in left. Cal Raleigh came through with another big solo home run in the same inning and the Noles tacked on one more on a wild pitch to make it 7-3.

That’s where the scoring would end as the FSU bullpen performed well in preserving the lead. Will Zirzow got the start for FSU baseball and had a line of 4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K. Clayton Kwiatkowski earned his first career win (1-0) in a nice outing with 3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K. Chase Haney pitched a scoreless ninth for the Noles.

FSU played well defensively on the night as they didn’t commit an error. Taylor Walls had another nice game at the plate going 3-5 with two doubles, 2 runs, and an RBI. Dylan Busby continued his hot streak with a 3-4, 2 home run, 3 RBI night. Cal Raleigh was 1-3 with a solo home run.

The Noles have some challenging series on the horizon; starting with this weekend at rival Miami. Check in Friday for our series preview.
