Sports Science takes a look at former FSU football star running back Dalvin Cook and says he compares favorably to former Nole Devonta Freeman.

Former FSU football running back Dalvin Cook recently appeared on Sports Science to have his athletic ability assessed.

All you have to do is put on the film and it’ll tell you Dalvin Cook is an exceptional running back. However, what they discovered supports what you see on film despite Cook not running a super blazing fast 40 yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Ross broke the NFL Combine 40 time record this year with a time of 4.22. Cook ran a 4.49 on his best 40 yard attempt (both without pads).

Thoughts

When Cook ran his 40 time at the NFL Combine a lot of people seemed to think he’d run a lot faster. However, those that have watched him the last three years at FSU knew he’s not an absolute burner when it comes to top end speed.

Cook gets his separation because of elite acceleration, but it’s not like he’s slow either. How many times did you watch Dalvin Cook break a run for a long touchdown? Now, how many times have you seen someone run Cook down from behind?

As far as the comparison to former Nole Devonta Freeman, I think that’s somewhat accurate. Freeman seems to enjoy contact a bit more than Cook, but lacks the ability to break long runs for touchdowns like Cook.

However, both are adept at catching passes out of the backfield and doing damage in the passing game.

This is just another instance of Cook proving he’s worthy of being the first running back taken in the draft.
