FSU Football: Deondre Francois Has Improved Since Last Season
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football needs quarterback Deondre Francois to be better in 2017. We talk about why it looks like he’s already gotten better.

FSU football can win a National Title with Deondre Francois if he does the things we talked about after the ‘Noles Orange Bowl win over Michigan.
We talked about these three things:
- Improving Accuracy
- Improving at Line of Scrimmage/Checking into right play
- Not hold the ball forever and take a sack/monster hit
The spring game is a quick snapshot that we don’t want to put too much emphasis on. However, it’s the closest thing we have to a LIVE game to make an assessment.
Some people were critical of Francois’s performance in the spring game, but I thought he played just fine and showed improvement. The stats say he completed just over 50 percent of his passes, but they don’t count the drops or other passes that probably should have been caught.
Check these below:
That should have been a touchdown. The only part I noticed was Francois did stare the receiver down the whole time, otherwise it was a magnificent throw.
This was an incomplete pass but it was one of my favorite throws on the day. It’s a pass where Francois scans the middle of the field before dropping that pass in the bucket against extremely tight coverage.
It’s likely that Noonie Murray, Auden Tate or Keith Gavin likely hauls in.
I don’t think Francois will run a ton this year because of the lack of depth at QB, much like the early part of last season. However, it was good to see Francois take off and use his legs on a few plays when it was obvious there were no receivers open downfield.
Francois would have gotten murdered by Derwin James on one play in particular, but overall I thought he did a good job of not holding the ball forever. He even threw a couple passes away when nobody was open.
Overall Thoughts
I think Francois will have a big year for FSU football. The biggest thing is he returns with a lot of experience from last season under his belt. He knows the offense better, and no disrespect to last years receivers, he’ll have much larger receivers as targets in 2017.
It’s true he will not have Dalvin Cook, but Jacques Patrick and Cam Akers look to be the real deal early on this spring.

Jimbo Fisher seems happy with how Francois is progressing, and that’s good enough for me.
