FSU baseball continues their slump by dropping their third game this season to the rival Gators – being swept for the second straight regular season.

It wasn’t that long ago that FSU baseball was one of the top ranked teams in the country and was thinking about everything from ACC Championships to another trip to the College World Series. Now, the Seminoles are desperately trying to turn things around in time to even qualify for the NCAA tournament.

Tuesday, Florida State lost for the seventh time in their last 10 games – this one being a 10-7 loss to the hated rival Florida Gators that clinched the regular season sweep for the men from Gainesville for the second straight year – something that has NEVER happened before in the history of this series that dates all the way back to 1956.

Early on, it looked like the Seminoles might have something going when they got two runs in the bottom of the first inning – including this solo homer by Taylor Walls:

The lead would be short lived as Florida got four runs in the second inning – but FSU baseball responded right back with a run each in the second and third innings to tie the game up:

Then the bottom dropped out as the Gators scored six in the top of the fourth inning and never looked back. The Seminoles would add a run in the fourth and two in the ninth, but that’s all they could get as FSU has now lost 18 of the last 23 in the series.

It doesn’t get any easier for the 21-14 Seminoles this weekend as they welcome the fourth ranked Clemson Tigers to town for a three game series starting Saturday inside Dick Howser Stadium. That’s followed by a midweek game against Stetson before FSU hits the road for a three game series at another rival, the Miami Hurricanes, followed by a road game at Stetson and a return home for a three game series with No. 13 Virginia.
