The former FSU football defensive tackle who was a part of the 2013 national title winning team will spend his fourth year in the NFL with a new team.

At the end of the 2016 NFL season, there were eight teams that did not have a FSU football graduate on their roster. One quarter of the league did not have the luxury of having a former Seminole on their 53 man unit. Just weeks before the NFL Draft, you can add the Baltimore Ravens to that list.

That comes after the two time Super Bowl champions moved defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan along with a third round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for… a higher pick in that round. Jernigan, entering his fourth year in the league and the final year of his rookie contract, became expendable when the Ravens became stacked at defensive line, according to front office staff to BaltimoreRavens.com:

"“Timmy has been a terrific player for us for three seasons,” Ravens General Manager Ozzie Newsome said. “This will allow our young group of defensive linemen an opportunity to compete and play.”"

The former FSU football star, who was one of the top rated prep players coming out of Lake City, FL before helping the Seminoles during the 2013 title season and being drafted in the second round by Baltimore in 2014, started 15 games last season and had five sacks, the second most on the Ravens’ defensive line. He totaled 13 sacks in his first three years in 24 starts.

From the business side, it’s a smart move for the Ravens – who likely weren’t going to be a able to afford resigning Jernigan and got something for him now – and for Timmy himself, who will get a chance to audition for the Eagles and other franchises this season in the starting lineup.

The number of teams without a Seminole on their roster will actually stay at eight after the Miami Dolphins signed former FSU football linebacker Lawrence Timmons away from the Pittsburgh Steelers earlier this offseason. That leaves the Arizona Cardinals, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, New York Jets, San Diego Chargers and Seattle Seahawks as the franchises joining the Ravens with no Florida State representation.
