FSU baseball spotted Jacksonville seven runs in the first inning but continued to chip away at the lead on their way to a 10-9 victory.

FSU baseball had a miserable weekend at Virginia Tech, it looked as though that misery had carried over to Tuesday when they gave up seven runs to Jacksonville in the top of the first.

However, just as they did in the first meeting between these two teams, FSU was able to rally back to earn the victory. This time a three run ninth inning saw the Noles walk off with the 10-9 victory, bringing FSU’s record to 15-7 on the season.

Recap

FSU baseball fans had to feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day as they watched JU plate run after run in the first inning. Five hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch resulted in a seven run inning for Jacksonville.

Andrew Karp has been a bright spot on the mound for the Seminoles in 2017 but Tuesday was certainly not his night. Karp was only able to record two outs and finished with a line of 0.2 IP, 3 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 0 K.

More from FSU Baseball

The FSU bullpen has struggled of late but they were a key component in the Noles comeback on Tuesday. In 8.1 innings of work six different Seminoles combined to allow eight hits and just one earned run with eight K’s to zero walks.

Closer Drew Carlton was eventually credited with the win. The Seminoles were a little sloppy on defense; committing two errors.

FSU’s offense swung the bat well as they out-hit Jacksonville 16 to 11 on the evening and scored runs in seven of the nine innings. Things were looking bleak for Noles as they entered the bottom of the ninth down 9-7. A home run from Cal Raleigh to lead off the inning got the party started and cut the lead to 9-8.

Quincy Nieporte was then hit by a pitch, Hank Truluck came in to run for Nieporte and advanced to third on a Jackson Lueck single. Dylan Busby was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for Matt Henderson who struck out swinging.

FSU baseball was down to their last strike when freshman JC Flowers and eventually down to singled to left scoring Lueck and Truluck for the 10-9 walk off victory.

Watch The Win

The offensive leader for the Noles was Taylor Walls who went 4-5 with a home run to dead center, two runs, and two RBI. Nick Derr went 1-4 with a solo home run that was his first as a Seminole. Cal Raleigh had another multi-hit game going 3-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, and a home run in the bottom of the 9th. The hero JC Flowers was 3-5 with two HUGE RBI.

Early it looked as if FSU was reeling, and it would have been really easy to let this one get away from them. However, the Noles showed some fight, didn’t panic and worked themselves back into the game.

The return of Jackson Lueck was important to FSU on Tuesday and will be moving forward. Couple Lueck’s return with Drew Mendoza’s debut right around the corner and things could come together for this squad.

The win the Noles came up with against JU is the kind that can be a shot in the arm and get things moving in the right direction. FSU will travel this weekend to take on Notre Dame in a three game series. Be sure to check in on Friday for our series preview.
