FSU basketball made its exit from the NCAA Tournament with a blowout loss to Xavier in the round of 32. We have the fan reaction from social media.

The ‘Noles got its first NCAA Tournament win since 2012 on Thursday, but saw its season end in embarrassing fashion Saturday night.

The Xavier Muskateers had their way with the ‘Noles almost from the onset, building an early double-digit lead FSU could never overcome.

The ‘Noles looked lost on defense, allowing Xavier to score at will while taking poor shots and missing the open looks it did have.

Xavier shot 55.6 percent for the GAME and 64.7 percent from three-point land. They also out-rebounded the ‘Noles by three.

FSU actually won the battle on the offensive boards and took six more shots overall, but just couldn’t get anything to go down as Xavier packed its defense in the middle and made FSU shoot jump shots.

The reaction online from fans and media was not surprising with much of the blame going on Leonard Hamilton.

I can answer that last question Craig. It’s because FSU doesn’t have any consistent shooters night in and night out. That’s why Xavier was packing the middle and telling FSU to shoot from outside and tipped their caps when a shot was made.

There wasn’t much cap tipping going on.

Somebody on Twitter wrote the following and I agree wholeheartedly. This was a great season for FSU basketball, it just ended in embarrassing fashion in the NCAA Tournament.

This was a fairly young team, relying heavily on sophomore Dwayne Bacon and true freshman Jonathan Isaac to do a lot of the heavy lifting. FSU will likely lose both of those players to the NBA Draft.

Does that mean FSU goes back to mediocrity next season in the toughest conference? It’s certainly possible.
