Former FSU Football wide receiver Travis Rudolph decided to skip his senior season. He’s now projected to be a fourth round draft pick.

FSU football unexpectedly lost its most experienced wide receiver after the 2016 season when Travis Rudolph decided to forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

It’s a move that could hamper the FSU offense unless a couple of players step up in 2017. Rudolph was solid in 2016, but not the breakout season many were expecting after a big leap in 2015.

He’s projected to be a fourth round pick according to CBS Sports, and a quick scouting report from FanSided’s NFL Mocks:

"Overall, Travis Rudolph is a good vertical receiver who makes his money in the middle of the field. Most of the time, he’s getting yards after the catch (YAC) and does a great job along the sideline. Out of the nine possible routes in the route tree, four out of those routes had a grade of B or higher. Will need to show some consistency with his hands, improve his ball skills and his release off the line of scrimmage. Often times, he struggles with physical cornerbacks. I’ve got a late third round grade on Travis Rudolph and think it will take him time to develop into a slot receiver."

Thoughts

Rudolph had an issue with drops, but he played with four different quarterbacks (Winston, Golson, Maguire and Francois) during his three years with FSU.

As as fan, I wish Rudolph came back to FSU football the way Rashad Greene did in 2014.

Rudolph has been compared to Greene at times, as both had similar levels of production through their first two season at FSU. Greene went on to become one of the greatest FSU wide receivers ever, and a fifth round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015.

Rudolph is of slender build, but taller and a bit bigger than Greene while projected to run in the 4.5’s. Greene ran a 4.53 forty time at the NFL Combine.

If he’s selected in the fourth round, Rudolph would have to say he made the right decision as he probably wasn’t going to improve his stock with one more year at FSU.
