FSU recruiting for 2018 has gotten off to a great start, but took a hit when No. 1 athlete Justin Watkins flipped to Texas.

The No. 1 athlete in the 2018 recruiting cycle according to 247 Sports Composite rankings has flipped from FSU to Texas in a move that was not at all surprising.

Watkins took to Twitter to make the announcement Saturday evening:

He’s a four-star composite recruit at 5’11 172 pounds who has now on his third commitment. Watkins was committed to LSU over a year ago before settling on FSU.

It’s possible Watkins saw the writing on the wall with FSU signing the one of the best receivers in the 2017 class in D.J. Matthews who is of similar size.

Matthews will likely play mostly in the slot (where Watkins would be), not to mention defense isn’t allowed in the BIG 12 conference.
