Here’s a recap of the last week for FSU women’s basketball and a look ahead to what the next week has in store for the Lady ‘Noles.

For a moment, there was plenty of panic surrounding the FSU women’s basketball team as the work week came to an end. Head coach Sue Semrau watched her team do something they hadn’t done all season – lose more than one game at a time, suffering their first losing streak of the season and their first back-to-back losses in almost one whole year.

A quick turnaround might have been the best thing for the Lady ‘Noles, who returned action this weekend and blew out a ACC foe for the second time this season – and now, FSU turns to their final week of the regular season before hopefully a deep tournament run.

Lets take a look at what the last week were like for FSU women’s basketball and what the upcoming week will be like.

Week in Review

After a double overtime loss earlier in the week to Texas, FSU traveled to the commonwealth of Virginia and back into ACC play for a showdown with the Cavaliers. Early on, the Lady ‘Noles got all they good handle with a tie score at the break. A five point lead quickly went away as UVA outscored FSU 19-5 in the final frame and got the 60-51 upset victory.

The loss was amplified by the shoulder injury to Shakayla Thomas, who had been one of the team’s leading scorers for much of conference play. Thomas would miss Saturday’s game against Clemson – luckily for her and the ‘Noles, her game wasn’t needed as Florida State got the 80-47 victory, winning both games this season against the Tigers by nearly 45 points each contest. Both Ivey Slaughter and Brittany Brown had 14 points for the Seminoles.

A Look Ahead

The Lady ‘Noles will close out the regular season this week against two teams they will be seeing for the first time this season. It starts Thursday with the home finale against the Pittsburgh Panthers, a team they have defeated in all three meetings – including an 11 point win last season.

Sunday, it’s another nationally televised game against a ranked foe as Florida State heads to South Bend for a meeting with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Semrau and her team are still seeking their first ever win against Notre Dame, having lost all five of the previous meetings between the programs.
