The FSU basketball team snapped their two-game losing skid, defeating Boston College 104-72 while Dwayne Bacon reached 1000 points for his career.

After back-to-back deflating losses, all FSU basketball needed was a win. It doesn’t matter that it came in Tallahassee, against the worst team in the conference. After all, the Boston College Eagles are 9-19 on the year, 2-13 in conference. The Seminoles merely had to dominate their vastly inferior opponent. And dominate, they did.

Florida State led by double digits for almost the entire game. The final margin — 104 to 72 — was one of their biggest conference wins ever.

Dwayne Bacon bounced back nicely after his zero point outing versus the Pitt Panthers. Bacon finished with 16 points, five rebounds and four assists, with four three-pointers. He also reached 1000 points for his career tonight, just the second FSU sophomore to achieve the feat. The first was some guy that went by Bob Sura. I’m too young to remember him, but have heard he was pretty good.

The Eagles are a pretty atrocious basketball team, and the Seminoles are monsters at home. So multiple guys had big showings, so picking our award winners won’t be easy.

But if anyone has to do it, I’m glad it’s me.

Player of the Game

This probably should have gone to Bake, but he went 6-for-15 and turned the ball over twice. That’s not good enough to earn player of the game awards on Chop Chat. No, sir.

Instead, player of the game goes to junior point guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes. Mayes was an efficient beast against the Eagles, finishing the night with seven points on four shot attempts. He also had 10 assists and zero turnovers. Mayes is really starting to prove his worth at point guard, and I’m glad he had this type of showing in a stadium packed with pro scouts.

Ryan Reid Unsung Hero Award

I’m going to come right out and say it. I’m copping out here.

The Ryan Reid Unsung Hero Award goes to the entire bench. They played with incredible energy, and completely stifled the Eagles. The Boom Squad (what they like to be called) finished with 59 freaking points. 5-9. That’s a five, followed by a nine. (BC’s scored two points.)

For comparison’s sake, Miami and Virginia also played tonight. FSU’s bench would have outscored either (they scored 54 and 48 points respectively.

PJ Savoy scored 15 points, Jarquez Smith had 10, CJ Walker and Braian Angola-Rodas finished with nine a piece. Just total domination from the bench, against a terrible team.

Highlights

Did you guys know Walker plays with the Harlem Globetrotters in the offseason? I’m making that up, but if the NBA doesn’t work out in the future, he should definitely give them a call.

Bacon also decided to show off tonight. Here he is, taking off from outside the painted area.

And finally, here’s Bacon enjoying some… bacon!

Up Next

Florida State now gets the rest of the week off. On Saturday, they travel to Clemson to take on the rival Tigers. Despite their record, Joe Lunardi has them in his First Four Out. They’re a desperate team, playing at home, which is a recipe for disaster. But who knows, maybe the Seminoles surprise us and give a similar effort to the one they gave at Miami.

Hopefully, at least.
