Virginia vs. FSU 2011

FSU football had just come off a big 23-19 win over rival Miami and welcomed the Virginia Cavaliers to Tallahassee as 17 point underdogs.

The ‘Noles blew a 10-7 half-time lead, settled for a field goal after getting to the one yard line on a 68 yard catch by Bert Reed.

The ‘Noles were awful on third down, converting just three times on 13 attempts.

FSU was fortunate to even be in a position to kick a game-winning field goal. In the last 38 seconds, Virginia had a huge facemask penalty called against them that gave the ‘Noles a first down.

The refs then gave a favorable ruling that allowed the ‘Noles to run another play even though Virginia started celebrating because they thought the game was over.

A replay ruling gave the ‘Noles a few seconds to kick a 42 yard field goal with three seconds left after Virginia received a five yard penalty for encroachment.

However, Dustin Hopkins missed the field goal to the left and Virginia was finally able to celebrate for real.
