FSU vs. Wake Forest 2011

Listen, no disrespect to Wake Forest, but FSU football should never lose to Wake Forest.

Ever.

However, that’s exactly what happened when FSU rolled into Winston-Salem as 11 point favorites after back-to-back losses to Oklahoma and Clemson respectively in 2011.

Redshirt freshman Clint Trickett was making his second consecutive start due to EJ Manuel getting hurt in the Oklahoma game.

Manuel would eventually come into the game late in the first half after Trickett turned the ball over three times. However, it still wasn’t enough as Manuel threw two interceptions himself for a grand total of five turnovers.

Sound familiar?

Turnovers are the ultimate equalizer when there’s a huge talent gap and that’s what happened in this game.

This was an awful loss. Yes, there were injuries to players, but elite teams don’t allow a loss to Oklahoma to turn into losses to Clemson and Wake Forest too.

It was just part of the process in getting back to that elite status.
