We take a look at what a conference consisting of all teams from the state of Florida would mean for the FSU and the rest of the state’s colleges.

A quarter century ago, there were just six teams playing college football at the Division 1 level…FSU, Florida and Miami at 1-A (now called FBS) and Bethune Cookman, FAMU and UCF playing at the 1-AA level (now FCS). Fast forward to the 2016 season and that number will almost be doubled as 11 teams will take the field at either one of those levels in the Sunshine State.

Across the state, six different conferences are represented in the state of Florida, forcing schools like FSU, Miami, Florida and everyone else to cross the country to play games each season in sports from football to women’s softball.

In the example of Florida State, being a part of the ACC has been nice and has helped the school in areas both athletically and academically, but could FSU and the other major schools in the state be better off by keeping everything in house and playing in an All-Florida Conference?

It wouldn’t be the bad of an idea when you take a look at the numbers and what the state has to offer. Let’s take a look at what a conference of teams only from the state (lets call it the Florida Sun Conference) would mean for the college sports world and the schools playing in it.

(For the record, we all know this would never happen…but we’re having a little fun, so play along).
