Let’s take a look at how FSU’s Olympic sport teams did this past week.

While much of the attention is paid to the major FSU sports, including football, basketball and baseball, there is plenty of other athletic competition going on right now on the Tallahassee campus and across the country involving the ‘Noles. Here’s a recap of how some of the Olympic sports fared this past week.

Beach Volleyball

It’s off to Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend for the inaugural NCAA Championships this weekend. After winning the inaugural CCSA Championships in late April (where the Lady ‘Noles dominated all five matches, including winning the last four by a combined 18-0), FSU had to wait until Sunday night to find out who their opponents would be.
The Lady ‘Noles ended up being the top overall seed in the eight team field and will play in-state foe Stetson on Friday at 10 AM. The complete bracket can be found here, while it should be noted that FSU has a 5-1 record against the four teams they have faced in the field, including the only team to beat the Seminoles this year, Hawai’i.

Softball

It was another week, another set of wins for the Lady ‘Noles on the diamond over the past few days. After defeating UCF at home in a midweek contest, FSU went back into conference play on the road and swept a three game series against the Pitt Panthers. The Lady ‘Noles will finish off their regular season schedule with midweek games against Florida on Tuesday (including the originally scheduled game and the completion of the first meeting between the two from earlier last month), a cross-town meeting with Florida A&M and an ACC series this weekend against Louisville.

Men’s and Women’s Track and Field

The Seminoles were on the road this weekend at one of the most historic events in the entire sport, the annual Penn Relays outside of Philadelphia. Both teams will send members over to Jacksonville on Wednesday for the annual UNF Twilight meet before having the weekend off to prepare for the ACC Outdoor Championships, being held May 13th-15th in Tallahassee.

Men’s Tennis

The Seminoles got some good news off the court as two of their players were named to the All-ACC team for the 2016 season. FSU now waits for Tuesday’s selection announcement for the NCAA Tournament, where they are all but assured of getting a bid into this year’s run for a championship.

Men’s Golf

After finishing third several weeks ago at the ACC Championships, the Seminoles will have to wait until Thursday to find out if they made it into the field for the NCAA Tournament. With FSU being ranked in the top 10 nationally for the entire season, it’s a given they will be playing some more gold in the month of May.

Women’s Golf

It’s tournament time for the Lady ‘Noles as they head into NCAA Regional play starting Thursday. FSU will be just up the road in Shoal Creek, Alabama in the regional hosted by the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Seminoles are seeded sixth out of the 18 teams in the field and are joined by conference champions Alabama, Northwestern and Oklahoma State along with ACC foes Clemson and Notre Dame. Six of the 18 teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships later this month in Eugene, Oregon.
