We’ve learned that Dalvin Cook will miss the remainder of the spring practice due to shoulder surgery. Mario Pender can’t stay healthy and has missed the most of spring practice.

However, two ‘Noles have emerged in the backfield and could be key in spelling Dalvin Cook this season. Those two players are Jacques Patrick and Ryan Green.

Patrick is a huge running back that’s capable of running with power and the ability to turn three and four yard runs into five to six yards per carry. However, he was inconsistent when it came to using that power to his advantage last season.

That seems to be changing according to Coach Fisher after one of the scrimmages.

“He started running with the power and the size that he has and pushing the pile. Not enough yet, but a lot more consistent than what he did . . . You’re 230 pounds, man. You can tackle me once or twice, but after the third or fourth time, that gets old, now. And that’s who he is.”

Ryan Green is a great compliment to Patrick’s bruising style as Green is capable of taking it to the house at any time. He broke off a 70 yard touchdown run in a recent scrimmage. Of course, Green came to FSU as a running back then tried to make the switch to defensive back before returning to running back this season.

It looks like FSU will have some depth before Cook in the backfield this season.
