Defense

The biggest problems for FSU basketball in 2015 were on the defensive side of the ball. The team allowed opposing offenses to average 74 points per game which was 235th in the nation.

That’s terrible for the type of athletes that FSU basketball has on its team, not to mention Leonard Hamilton has shown he is capable of fielding excellent defenses in years past.

However, there were times in 2015 season where it seemed like teams had five Steph Curry’s on the floor. Teams would drive right by the guards on defense for easy layups because the threat of a block wasn’t overly huge.

Other times, teams would drive and the defense would collapse on the driver, only to leave a shooter wide open for a three-point basket. Think the first Syracuse game, second Virginia Tech game and the Georgia Tech game.

FSU basketball allowed teams to shoot 50 percent or higher from the floor on four occasions in 2015. Guess what?

Three of those occasions were against a team that didn’t make the NCAA Tournament(Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech 2x).

Those are games that FSU basketball has to win to settle into the upper tier of the ACC on a consistent basis.
