Three Point Shooting

The ‘Noles three point shooting regressed from the 2014 season. FSU basketball made 36 percent of their long-range shots in 2014, but only made 34.1 percent in 2015.

There were too big problems with this area in 2015:

  • Shot Selection
  • Who took the shot

Sophomore Xavier Rathan-Mayes made 28.5 percent of his three-point attempts as a freshman. Guess what? He shot more three pointers this since than last, which accounted for 26 percent of the teams three-point attempts.

He made 28.1 percent of his three-point attempts this season.

Freshman Dwayne Bacon took 18 percent of the team’s total three-point, but only hit on 28.1 percent of them. He would often force three pointers which is a freshman mistake.

Freshman Benji Bell made three-point attempts at a 42.6 percent clip, but only took eight percent of the three-point shots.

Again, it boils down to team maturity and recognizing the strengths and weakness of each team member.
