FSU Football: How Good Was 2015 Defense?
By Kelvin Hunt
- DEx: Explosive Drive Rate, the percentage of opponent drives that earn at least 10 yards per play.
We talked about how the FSU defense allowed a number of first downs in 2015. However, the FSU defense didn’t allow many 30 yard runs or passes completed for over 25 yards. The FSU defense only allowed 8.3 percent of opponent drives to earn at least 10 yards per play which was good for No. 12 nationally.
Which translates into the FSU defense playing a “bend but not break” mentality. As we said it’s difficult for teams to drive 75-80 yards consistently and score touchdowns.
That has to be the case since the defense only allowed 24 points or more once all season while giving up a number of first downs.
FSU would often give up a few first downs and force teams to punt or kick field goals while stiffening up in the red zone.
