Though not quite the high school prospect Peterson was, Ramsey was still highly sought after when he made his decision to attend Florida State in 2013 as a 247Sports composite five-star recruit and the 15th best prospect in the country.

However, Ramsey did beat Peterson into the starter’s role when he famously became the first true freshman to start at cornerback for the Seminoles since Deion Sanders in 1985.

Though Ramsey’s stay at corner last just three games before being moved to safety to fill in for an injury, he responded to that honor with a season of 49 tackles, two for a loss, a sack, an interception and a forced fumble in 14 games as Florida State won its first national championship since 1999.

After a freshman year spent contributing to a Florida State secondary that ranked top in the nation against the pass despite facing a number of NFL caliber-receivers in Sammy Watkins, Martavis Bryant, Allen Hurns and Jamison Crowder, Ramsey took over a Star position that allowed for him to flourish.

Jalen Ramsey routinely made plays in the opposing backfield with 80 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, three sacks and three forced fumbles to go along with two interceptions and 12 defended passes in 14 games.

Finally, as a junior this past season Ramsey moved back to his spot as the starting boundary corner while, like Peterson, trying his hand at the return game. But Ramsey never really got traction as a returner, posting just 60 total yards on three kick and punt returns combined.

His raw numbers also dipped with just 52 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss and a sack, though he was still recognized as a 2015 consensus All-American because of his impact on the Noles’ defense and 10 defended passes.
