Defensive backs

The ‘Noles had a major need in the secondary, and they hit a home-run this cycle.

Derwin James – In my opinion, James is the top recruit in the country. He runs a 4.5 in the 40 yard dash and has an excellent first step and closing speed. James in a bruiser, delivering crushing blows to opponents time after time. James will also have an opportunity to replace Rashad Greene on punt-return duties and contribute in the kick-return game as well.

Calvin Brewton – Brewton is not extremely flashy, but the things he does, he does very well. Brewton has solid speed and is a very good athlete. His height and length are a very nice asset, but he needs to add about 15-20 lbs. of weight to improve as a tackler. Brewton displays an ability to use his hips and turn and run with receivers that is very rare to find. He does a nice job of breaking up passes and finding the ball.

Tarvarus McFadden – McFadden has all of the physical tools to be a lockdown cornerback. His size and length are clearly his best strengths, and he displays excellent quickness and hips for a player of his size.

Marcus Lewis – Lewis is a very explosive and physical player. He had a phenomenal showing at the Under Armour All-American Game.

AJ Westbrook – Westbrook is a playmaker. The ability to read and recognize plays however may be the most impressive part of his game. He tackles very well in space, and even makes plays in run support.

Grade – A+. The ‘Noles needed to strike gold at defensive back this cycle and they did just that. Landing 2 five-stars and 3 four-stars.
