Derwin James – Five-star Safety – Haines City Senior High School – 6’2″ , 201 lbs. – Early-Enrollee (EE)

Derwin James was the first commitment of the 2015 class, committing back in February of 2012. He never wavered from his commitment during the last three years, and I think that will pay dividends in his being able to come in and play right away and be a leader for the 2015 class.

In my opinion, James is the top recruit in the country. He runs a 4.5 in the 40 yard dash and has an excellent first step and closing speed. James in a bruiser, delivering crushing blows to opponents time after time. James will also have an opportunity to replace Rashad Greene on punt-return duties and contribute in the kick-return game as well.

With the departure of cornerbacks Ronald Darby and P.J. Williams, there is going to be some shuffling around in the secondary. I think James will have a great opportunity to come in and make an immediate impact in the secondary, much like Jalen Ramsey in 2013.

James chose the ‘Noles over offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, LSU, Miami, Ohio State and UCF.
