The Chomp

The Gator chomp is Florida’s equivalent to FSU’s tomahawk chop, of course, and involves the simulation of a gator’s jaws snapping together. It effectively plays to a gator’s most intimidating feature, rows of sharpened teeth, and it also looks pretty cool when the crowd at the Swamp executes it in unison.

The problem with the chomp is its musical accompaniment: the theme from Jaws. Florida had the chance to come up with its own original theme, one that people would have associated solely with UF, the way fans across the country do with FSU and the Warchant. Instead, the Gators ripped off a Steven Spielberg movie. About sharks.
