This and That
- Give Rashad Greene a lot of credit for what he did yesterday. Greene took a hard shot on the arm and had to leave the field momentarily. When the X-Rays came back negative, Greene wasted no time getting back on the field. He finished the day with eight receptions for 106 yards. After the game Jimbo Fisher said trainer Jake Pfeil was potentially more concerned about the injury than Greene, “Jake panicked. Jake is like a parent. Doggone trainer.”
- The Cameron Erving move to center seems to be paying dividends. FSU’s pass protection has seen the biggest improvement but the run-blocking has gotten better too. Roderick Johnson is going to be a fun player to watch. The freshman LT has an NFL-sized frame and he has held his own in his first two starts. As FSU will be turning over its entire line next year, it will have been invaluable to get Ryan Hoefeld and Johnson some early playing time.
- Cason Beatty continues to impress, when he boomed a 54-yard punt in the third quarter it marked the fifth straight game Beatty has had a punt of over 50 yards. He also downed a punt inside the 20 for the 13th time this year.
- Nate Andrews finished with a career-high 12 tackles, surpassing his previous high of 10. That’s a good day for Andrews, but when you play a running team it’s usually not a good sign when your safety leads the team in tackles. Jalen Ramsey finished second in tackles. PJ Williams was fourth.
- Roberto Aguayo missed just his second field goal of the season, just the third of his career on Saturday. It was his first miss at home. After the game Aguayo was unwilling to make excuses, “I can’t put the excuse on the rain because there are people in the north kicking in the snow. It does make the conditions and makes the kicks harder, honestly, with the ground being muddy. It is harder to kick it, but it was well in my range as a 40-yard kick so I knew that factored out. I don’t blame it on the weather.”
- More Greene: The senior WR is now first all-time at FSU in receptions and receiving yardage, he’s also caught a pass in 40 straight games, beating Rodney Smith’s FSU career record of 39.
