It’s Time to Go to Dalvin Cook

Were it not for injuries this case could also potentially be made for Mario Pender, but it’s time to move away from the idea of Karlos Williams as the bell-cow back and start giving more touches to Dalvin Cook.Williams still has a place down near the goal-line and in short yardage situations, but his vision and ability to run between the tackles continues to be a question mark.

Last night Williams had arguably his best first half of any game this season, but by the end of the night Dalvin Cook had supplanted him anyway and was taking the lion’s share of the carries. Cook looked a lot more dynamic too.

Williams is great on a stretch or when he can go and get the corner, but Cook’s vision and ability to find space are uncanny. He keeps his eyes up, waits on his blocks and reads the unblocked defenders at the next level. Whereas a lot of times it feels like Williams is getting shot out of a cannon — he ends up hitting his blockers backsides before anything develops and then the play goes no where — Cook is much more natural, he allows it to develop and then makes his cut and puts it into gear.

With Cook running the ball last night FSU’s rushing attack looked dynamic for the first time all year.

Moving forward, Florida State needs to get the true freshman involved more and more.
