Here’s a look at what to watch for when Florida State hosts Clemson.
At this point in the rivalry, it’s tough to call the Florida State Seminoles’ annual tilt with the Clemson Tigers a trap game– but this weekend’s game certainly has that feel.
The Tigers head to Tallahassee looking to avenge a 51-14 thrashing on their home-field last season. Florida State, meanwhile, has had a week filled with distractions, foremost among them the suspension of quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston — who threw for over 400 yards at Clemson last season — will be out for the first half after shouting obscenities on campus this week.
In Winston’s place will be Sean Maguire, another redshirt sophomore and the only other man left on the roster from the 2013 Spring Camp QB competition that also featured Jacob Coker and Clint Trickett. Maguire’s parents were so sure he wouldn’t play against Clemson that they gave away their tickets and made other plans. They weren’t the only ones who were reportedly surprised by the fact their son will be starting.
FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher is rumored to have been surprised by the suspension leveled by athletic director Stan Wilcox and interim President Garnett Stokes too.
Either way, there will be plenty going on come Saturday night. Here’s what to watch for:
