Full Disclosure: I am a huge Jameis Winston fan. The only thing about that, though, is the fact that it’s solely based on YouTube videos, hype and a scrimmage against his own team. Still, you know what? I don’t care if I am about to get unreasonably high on a fella who has yet to see the field in a Florida State Seminoles football uniform.
I’m not alone. The hype starting to build around Winston is a mix of epic awesomeness and unrealistic expectations. Whether he deserves it or not, Jameis Winston is going to carry a program’s worth of worries on his redshirt freshman shoulders. Again — because they are not my shoulders doing the carrying — Winston being compared to a hybrid of Chuck Norris and Revolver Ocelot is completely fine by me.
In fact, let us get lost in the hype together. I mean, why take a trip of hope and naivety alone? Surely we all believe that losing EJ Manuel is not going to matter at all because, Jameis Winston.
I honestly mean it as well. There is not a single thing wrong with getting caught up in hype that will surely lead to some form of disappointment. To truly expect Winston to be good enough to lead FSU to a National Championship this season is as sane a thinking as believing that curb-stomping a streetwalker won’t result in a stay at the pokey.
Does it really matter that Winston has yet to play a single relevant football game for the Seminoles? Not really. The myth of Jameis Winston is already starting to grow despite not playing a single snap last season. Part of that is due to being a top-prospect out of high school, being a two sport athlete and this:
For real. That is a real thing. A Jameis Winston hype video/movie trailer/thing of awesomeness.
There is so many different things to take away from such a YouTube posting. Things like fantastic, awesome, inspiring and magnificent immediately come to mind. Another thing that also comes to mind — ahhhhh what?!
To be fair, though, all the “Winston is going to kill bears with his hands and drink their blood using Dixie cups” talk has nothing to do with Winston himself. He isn’t out and about telling the world he is the greatest thing since sliced-bread. What he is actually doing, however, is being really funny on social media — using the mean streets of Twitter and Vine to entertain Nole Nation well before the season gets underway.
Winston has all the makings of a super-duper-star. He is an incredible athlete, plays multiple sports, is fun and entertaining on social media, has hordes of fans and plays for one of the premiere programs in the entire nation.
With all of the being said I suppose I’d be more worried about him if there were no hoopla behind him at all.
Jameis Winston: Man-beast, bear killer, social media extraordinaire, ladies man and most importantly the quarterback for your Florida State Seminoles.
