FSU Football finds themselves in maybe the most important game of the season – and as much as it hurts to say, it’s time for a change under center.

A few weeks ago, I wrote on this very website that FSU football needed to do something at the quarterback position – and that was to keep James Blackman as the starter for their latest game against Clemson, using the reasoning that he had not played himself out of the starting spot after missing the NC State game due to an injury.

After an abysmal showing by nearly the entire offense in a blowout loss to Clemson last weekend – a game where both Blackman and Alex Hornibrook were just as bad at quarterback with Hornibrook throwing for about 20 more yards and the only passing touchdown – the question has become which one will start this Saturday against Wake Forest.

At 3-3 on the season with the Demon Deacons becoming the most important game of the season at this point, the answer for FSU football has become clear after seeing what took place last week: Hornibrook should be the first quarterback taking snaps this Saturday night.

Yes, I know what I wrote about two weeks ago and stand by it at the time – but the time has changed and the argument can be made that Blackman did play himself out of the starting spot with a performance that could be described as disappointing…disturbing…pick any word you want at this point.

Blackman threw for just nine completions in the game for just 66 yards and had two interceptions while throwing for less than 50 percent in completion percentage on the day. Hornibrook, on the other hand, threw for eight completions on just 12 attempts but threw for 84 yards and the game’s only passing touchdown for the Seminoles on a long pass to Tamorrion Terry.

Don’t get me wrong – I am not calling for a full time change and think you should still see Blackman a whole heck of a lot against a defense in Wake Forest that is giving up just about 30 yards less a game than a FSU football defense that is among the worst nationally against the pass.

But, when the Seminoles take the field on offense for the first time – based both on what took place against the Wolfpack and what didn’t take place against the Tigers – it should be the No. 12 jersey getting the first quarterback snaps this week.
