FSU doesnt’ have to worry about who their starting quarterback will be this season – but watching the debate at UF and UM is pretty darn funny.

Entering the 2016 season, FSU football has plenty of questions about who their starting quarterback was going to be before the Seminoles eventually settled on Deondre Francois. At the same time, the rival Miami Hurricanes had the most experienced quarterback in the state in Brad Kaaya, while the Florida Gators had several quarterback options that might have combined made one complete signal caller.

Fast forward one season and it’s the Seminoles who are sitting pretty with D12, who passed for over 3300 yards last season and 20 touchdowns in helping to lead Florida State to a 10 win season and Orange Bowl victory – while both rivals are less than two weeks from the start of 2017 and they STILL don’t know who will be starting their first game.

In all honesty, the Canes got hosed by Kaaya heading to the NFL Draft – where he thought he would be a high round pick but ended up being selected in the sixth round be the Detroit Lions. Had he come back, Miami wouldn’t have been in as much trouble and FSU would have had a lot more to worry about.

Now, it appears that the Hurricanes are going to with Malik Rosier – who started one game in 2015 when Kaaya was injured – over true freshman, N’kosi Perry as the guy who will lead the team to start the season. I’m not sure if that says more about the other options not being good enough or head coach Mark Richt and company being out of their minds.

Meanwhile, down in Gainesville, the Gators have another quarterback by committee situation where you have three different players – returning partial 2016 starter Luke Del Rio, former top recruit Felipe Franks and Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire – who all have not proven they are better than each other to win the starting spot out right.

CBSSports.com recently ranked the mist important position battles remaining to be decided – and surprise, surprise the quarterback battles at both FSU rivals were ranked the top two. I’m not saying it’s not an important decision and both Richt and Jim McElwain shouldn’t be absolutely sure. But at this point there has to be a  leader and one player chosen to get ready for the season.

Rozier will get a warm welcome in his first real game (as his other start was against Duke) when Miami travels to Tallahassee on September 16th (after starting the year with Bethune Cookman and Arkansas State) – while anyone of the Florida options could be in there when the Seminoles win their fifth in a row over the Gators come November.
