FSU football has a fiery coach in Jimbo Fisher – but one expert seems to think that fire could get him tossed from a game someday.

Over the last 41 seasons of FSU football, the Seminoles have been fortunate to have head coaches that are willing to go to bat for their players on the field and don’t hold back when it comes to telling officials they are wrong. It started with Bobby Bowden and has continued over the last seven seasons under Jimbo Fisher.

Anyone who has watched the Seminoles in action under Fisher knows that he doesn’t hold back with officials when he thinks they have screwed up. There have been times you have wondered whether, quite frankly, he was going to explode right there on the sideline.

It’s also something that could cost him to hit the showers early. A rule imposed before the 2016 season put more emphasis on giving unsportsmanlike conduct penalties to coaches who take the field and berate officials just like players – and two of them mean a coach gets tossed. While Fisher didn’t go that far last season, Sports Illustrated college football writer Andy Staples, answering a question online, thinks he’s among those most likely to get an early exit:

Of course, the play that Staples was talking about is one that will make fans of FSU football lose their minds – when fullback Freddie Stevenson was flagged for a chop block during last year’s game against Clemson that negated a long run by Dalvin Cook and took away the momentum from the Seminoles:

Fisher lost his mind on the field and got a flag for it – but that didn’t stop him during the post game presser:

Jimbo Fisher has been around the college football game long enough to know the line and when not to cross it. Yes, there have been times that he has tip toed on that line and his face has trend a darker shade of red than his garnet polo or pullover – but so far, we’re still good at keeping him on the field for an entire game.

Officials will be enforcing the rule more often this season it seems – and the Seminoles’ support staff will be practicing this August in the training room and practice field how to make sure Fisher stays in the game for the entire year.
