FSU Football: Is 2017 Team More Talented Than 2013 Team?
By Kelvin Hunt
FSU football has itself in prime position to compete for a National Title in 2017. Is this team more talented than the 2013 team?
The 2013 National Champion FSU football team is arguably one of the greatest teams of all time. They went undefeated and blew out almost every opponent that season.
Also, every starter from that team went on to play in the NFL which is incredible. However, they’re some people who believe this 2017 team may be more talented than that 2013 team which is hard to fathom.
When you look at the recruiting numbers though, they don’t lie:
2010 | 88.65 |
2011 | 90.41 |
2012 | 92.71 |
2013 | 89.19 |
That’s a per player average of 90.24.
2014 | 90.07 |
2015 | 92.41 |
2016 | 91.71 |
2017 | 91.01 |
That’s a per player average of 91.30. If we go by the raw recruiting numbers, the 2017 team is more talented overall than 2013. Now, of course players develop differently, and that’s a major factor in determining how successful recruiting class are ultimately.
There were several players on that 2013 team that were three-star recruits who went on to be high NFL Draft picks:
- Cam Erving
- Tre Jackson
- Bjoern Werner
- Terrance Brooks
Then again, there were several highly ranked players that never became significant contributors too.
If you had to rank them by groups? I think I’d have to side with the 2013 team, simply because we already know how great they were.
This 2017 FSU football team is ridiculously talented with future NFL players all over the field. However, probably one of the greatest difference makers would be having Jamies Winston at quarterback compared to Deondre Francois.
Frenchy is a very good college quarterback, but he’ll never be a future No. 1 overall draft pick or be in the discussion.
A lot of the hype of 2017 is based on what people think is possible, and we know sometimes that never happens for whatever reason. However, this 2017 FSU team has the upcoming season to prove me wrong.
