FSU football has been ranked in final poll ever year with Jimbo Fisher has head coach. One of two teams that can claim that honor.

It’s not the run Bobby Bowden had from 1987-2000, but finishing ranked in the final AP poll every season is nothing to sneeze at.

In fact, you can probably guess who that other team is. That’s right, the Nick Saban led Alabama Crimson Tide.

Here’s where FSU football was ranked in the preseason rankings of each year under Fisher:

  • 2010-No. 20
  • 2011-No. 6
  • 2012-No. 7
  • 2013-No. 11
  • 2014-No.  1
  • 2015-No. 10
  • 2016-No. 4

Here’s where FSU football has finished in the final rankings each year under Fisher:

  • 2010-No. 17 (10-4) Bowl Win
  • 2011-No. 23 (9-4) Bowl Win
  • 2012-No. 10 (12-2) ACC Champions, Bowl Win
  • 2013-No. 1 (14-0) ACC Champions, National Champions
  • 2014-No. 6 (13-1) ACC Champions, Bowl Loss
  • 2015-No. 14 (10-3) Bowl Loss
  • 2016-No. 8 (10-3) Bowl Win

Thoughts

I’m not a big fan of preseason polls as they are worthless for the most part because of media bias. However, FSU football is one of the few teams that finishes in the same ballpark or better than preseason projections.

It’s a testament to what Jimbo Fisher has done during his time at FSU. Those that remember the late Bowden years know what I mean as recruiting was not competing at an elite level.

Not to mention the vaunted FSU defenses of years past were exactly that, in the past. Fisher has restored the talent level to elite status.

The FSU offense and defense both finished among the top 10 when looking at advanced metrics for the 2016 season. The 2017 season should be just as good if not better.

FSU football will be highly ranked again in 2017, and will be in a position to compete for a ACC and National Championship.
