FSU football will start the season with Boise State at the same time the ACC will be debuting their network – so will the Noles be the debut program?

In less than three years, the ACC will join the ranks of other Power Five conferences in major college sports by having their own cable network. The ACC Network promises to expand coverage of all sports and teams from the conference – especially programs like FSU football, which will bring eyes to the new channel.

When things kick off during the 2019 season, it will be during an opening weekend for the conference with quite the opening slate. The Seminoles will be in Jacksonville for their opener with Boise State, while rivals Miami and Florida will play along with North Carolina-South Carolina and even Duke taking on Alabama.

Right now, those are the marquee games scheduled for the opening weekend of the 2019 season. David Teel, a longtime ACC writer from the Newport News, VA Daily Press, recently wrote that the league is going to consider front loading their team’s schedules with conference games – similar to what the SEC did after their network’s debut – to help programming for the network.

Commissioner John Swofford, speaking to Teel at the ACC Basketball Tournament last week, seemed all in for that idea:

"“You want to have a quality launch, and certainly games that are appealing are really important…and not only in that particular year. We are spending a lot of time talking about scheduling.”“There are some concerns about those (FCS) games being frontloaded on everybody’s schedule. That’s probably not good going forward with our business decisions and scheduling decisions related to the channel.”"

Teel suggested that teams like Clemson and Virginia Tech may move their games with FCS foes to meet in that opener, but a better chance is one of the already schedule games being place in that spot. Duke plays at Alabama, so that’s out. UNC’s game with South Carolina is probably the best option along with the Seminoles and the Broncos since Miami/Florida will get national love based on the infrequency of their meetings.

Does this mean we’re going to start to see the Seminoles open up the season more often with games against Clemson, Louisville or even Miami? Right now, all that can be said is stay tuned…to the ACC Network, I guess.
