FSU football was led on and off the field last season by DeMarcus Walker – which makes it even weirder that some draft analyst would question his character.

Over the past four seasons for FSU football, there have been several things that were a guarantee. One of those was that with defensive end DeMarcus Walker, you were going to get a player who not only gave you great talent on the field – but was possibly even a better person off of it. Whether it was getting his degree on time to numerous community service efforts, the Jacksonville native made fans and coaches proud he was a ‘Nole.

It’s those facts that make the following draft breakdown of him event hat much more odd. Last week, draft analyst Tony Pauline gave his latest draft buzz on the website DraftAnalyst.com. Here is what he had to say about the man who had 33.5 sacks the last two seasons for FSU football:

"The overwhelming belief is DeMarcus Walker of Florida State will leave Indianapolis with depressed draft stock, an opinion I completely agree with. It’s a combination of a lack of size, poor speed and a question as to where he’ll line up on Sundays. I’m also told there are a few character issues with Walker."

Pauline’s comments about Walker’s stock dropping are not anything new – as, for a variety or reasons, different experts have dropped him from at one point being a low first round pick to being in the fourth or fifth round at this point.

But character issues? Walker has been one of the constant good guys for head coach Jimbo Fisher during his time in Tallahassee, never having been in trouble with the law or in any academic danger. While others in the program were not always holding up their end of those deals, Walker wasn’t ever someone coaches had to worry about.

We all saw during Showtime’s “A Season With FSU Football” where he put the blame on himself for the team’s early defensive struggles – even though it clearly wasn’t his fault, which is the sign of a true leader. How about when he went home during the bye week and helped those in his home area who had been devastated by Hurricane Matthew.

How about his work with school children – or doing whatever it takes to make a kid’s day:

Yeah…Walker has SO MANY character flaws that he should just be locked up right now (sarcasm, clearly). Pauline clearly is either thinking of the wrong person with the last name Walker or the first name DeMarcus, or he is just assuming that because of the actions of some former teammates, Walker must be a bad egg…which we all know is the furthest thing from the truth.
