FSU football will have several former stars selected in this April’s NFL Draft – with two names being ranked by one insider as top prospects.

There is little doubt that come the final Thursday of April this year, FSU football will continue a streak that dates all the way back to 1984 – the Seminoles have had at least one player taken in each of the last 33 NFL Player Drafts.

There is almost no doubt also that the Seminoles will have a player taken in the first round for the fifth straight year when running back Dalvin Cook hears his name called during the first night of festivities – being held this year in Philadelphia after spending the last two years in Chicago.

According to NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, Cook is ranked as one of the best prospects out there – coming in at No. 11 in his ranking of this year’s class:

"Cook has average size and bulk for the position but he is dripping with instincts, explosiveness, and versatility. As a runner, he’s patient, letting his blocking develop before exploding through the line of scrimmage. His feet are always active and he can avoid defenders in tight quarters because of his quickness. Overall, Cook is perfect for the way the NFL game is played today. He is an explosive play waiting to happen."

Cook wasn’t the only former FSU football star who Jeremiah is high on – defensive end star DeMarcus Walker came in at No. 46 on his list:

"As a pass rusher, he lacks explosiveness but he’s very polished and productive. He has a variety of hand moves and an assortment of counter moves. He doesn’t win with pure speed or power but he gets the job done. As a run defender, he beats up tight ends and avoids getting cut on the edge. He has found a way to make crucial plays in crunch time throughout his career."

If players were selected based on their spot on the current list and the NFL Draft’s current order, Cook will be packing his bags for New Orleans and joining the Saints while Walker will either head to Indianapolis or Philadelphia, depending on who loses the coin toss at this year’s NFL combine.

Of course, everyone who roots for the Seminoles wants these two stars to join their teams – including the Chop Chat staff, who would all be happy if either the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers or Tampa Bay Buccaneers made this duo their future players.
