FSU Football: LSU Still Gunning For Jimbo Fisher?

FSU football head coach Jimbo Fisher just signed a new deal with the ‘Noles. However, LSU still seems to be gunning for the QB guru.

FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher says that he is happy being the head coach at Florida State. He’s into his seventh year as head coach, he’s won a national title and three ACC titles.

However, the past couple of years have seen FSU slip from the top of the ACC and national title picture.

Fisher is 75-17 as head coach at FSU, but six of those losses have come in the past 23 games. That doesn’t seem to bother LSU, who according to a recent report still has Fisher high on its priority list as its new head coach in 2017.

"Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher and LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron have emerged as strong candidates in the school’s search to replace Les Miles as head football coach, sources with knowledge of the situation said Monday.Multiple coaches who have worked for, or with, Fisher said it’s highly likely he would take the job if LSU meets his salary demands and gives him a long-term deal.“Jimbo was Joe’s guy from the beginning, and I just don’t see him passing on hiring him,” a source close to the situation said, referencing the AD’s pursuit of Fisher last fall when Miles was first under fire. Fisher was the offense coordinator for the Tigers’ national title team in 2003 under Nick Saban."

Thoughts

Jimbo Fisher is currently the fifth highest paid college football coach in the country at just over 5 million per year. Only Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh are above him. Only Saban and Harbaugh make over 1 million more per year than Fisher.

LSU has deep pockets and could afford to pay Fisher more than what FSU is currently paying. Then there’s the family situation with Fisher, his kids and ex-wife.

Would he be willing to move back to Baton Rouge given that he and his children’s mother are no longer married? How would they handle custody? Would she be willing to move there, or would he be comfortable leaving them in Tallahassee?

Does he feel as though he has accomplished all that he can with FSU football? How much is FSU willing to pay to try to keep Fisher?

All pertinent questions that we need answers to that will influence what Jimbo Fisher decides to do.

Some may have thought with FSU’s disappointing season that LSU may have lost interest in hiring Fisher. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case at all.
