Here’s a look at the five best wins by FSU football in a bowl game that was not for the national title, but still had quite the impact on the program.

Last season, FSU football continued what has become the longest current streak of bowl game appearances when they headed to the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl for a battle with the Houston Cougars. It’s a 34 season streak that dates back to a win in the 1982 Gator Bowl over West Virginia that, at the time, was just the Seminoles’ fourth ever bowl win.

The ‘Noles started their current bowl streak with 14 straight games without a loss (13 wins and one tie) to go along with a six season winning streak from 2008 until 2013. For fans of FSU football, it has become almost a certainty that the Seminoles will be playing a football game around the New Years holiday each season.

It’s not exactly a state secret which three bowl games are the best in FSU football history: the three national title winning games (the 1994 Orange Bowl over Nebraska, 2000 Sugar Bowl over Virginia Tech and the 2014 BCS Championship Game over Auburn).

But, what were the five best bowl games for the Seminoles that didn’t involve a national title? What were the games that meant the most because of either the opponent, the way the ‘Noles won or what it meant for the program at the time? Here’s a look at the five best non-title bowl wins in FSU history.
