Work has been done, it's time for FSU fans to understand Spring Transfer Portal approach

Most of the work has already been done.

FSU football fans have become accustomed to FSU coaches being active in the transfer portal to acquire talent. It's something Mike Norvell and the staff were way ahead of the game on in recent years. Other schools have followed their blueprint, so the playing field is more level.

We've seen FSU take a slow approach to the Spring Portal Window that opened last week, and the shooting on campus last week played some part in that. However, FSU football fans are growing impatient with the coaching staff's approach to the Spring Portal Window.

FSU has had eight players leave the program and enter the portal in this Spring window, and FSU has yet to sign anyone. Here's why:

FSU signed 16 players in the Winter Portal Window, and at least 12 will be starters, and another 2-3 will likely play significant snaps. They were looking to address needs with immediate contributors and did so.

They have been selective in this Spring Portal Window because they don't have THAT many needs. The only place they may need an immediate starter is in the secondary and offensive line, and the rest would be depth pieces.

None of the eight players they lost to the portal in recent weeks are massive losses. I'd argue it's addition by subtraction for the most part. The challenge is can they identify players who would be upgrades from the players lost? I'm not saying they have to replace all eight(or more if others leave), but can they address whatever needs they believe they have with players who may contribute this season?

It's quite possible, plus we must remember the new coaches on staff may have connections to some players who haven't entered the portal yet. Most players who enter the Spring Portal Window are not difference-makers, just look at who left FSU.

The most important thing to remember is that FSU did its most important work in the Winter Transfer Portal Window. Historically, that's when the better players enter the portal. If they can snag a couple of productive depth pieces in the spring? Great, but the success of the season will depend on how well those Winter Portal additions play.
