CASTELLANOS COMMENTS
Florida State football will take on Alabama in its season opener on August 30th, and I know that fans cannot wait to see how quarterback Thomas Castellanos and the squad perform. I have already been on record stating that I don't mind his comments about the Crimson Tide.
However, I realize that some of the fan base doesn't want to give Alabama bulletin board material. While I know that the Crimson Tide will have a new signal-caller in their offense, they do have a top-ten defensive unit in the country that Castellanos will have to play against.
HOW WILL HE PERFORM THROUGHOUT THE SEASON?
When people make comments like that, there might be times when quarterback Thomas Castellanos tries to play "hero ball" and force the issue to make a play. He's a confident young man, and I know that he wants to make a statement against the Crimson Tide.
However, we learned in 2021 when Florida State played Notre Dame in a home season opener and lost in a close contest, then the next week, the Seminoles lost a heartbreaker to Jacksonville State, and the season snowballed on them. If you are Mike Norvell, you cannot let that happen.
Castellanos did not perform up to his expectations in 2024 under new head football coach Bill O'Brien (Is he a quarterback development killer?). However, the dual-threat option rushed for 1,100 yards and 28 total touchdowns. His passing numbers aren't incredible, but if his short to intermediate passing is at least accurate, there is a chance that the Seminoles can be successful.
Under offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, I think Castellanos could get in the ballpark of 650 rushing yards and 2,150 passing yards, which should be good enough for the Seminoles to have at least an average offense in 2025.
The Georgia native should make Coach Norvell happy that he went into the transfer portal for a quarterback who probably started his hair going gray.
