Will Nebraska DE James Williams be the next transfer to commit to Florida State?
Florida State's entire defensive line is getting overhauled as players such as Joshua Farmer, Darrell Jackson Jr., Marvin Jones Jr., Lamont Green Jr., Byron Turner Jr., and potentially Patrick Payton to the NFL Draft or the transfer portal.
It feels so odd to see that assistant coach Odell Haggins will not have the title of defensive tackle coach. However, I am pleased to see that Haggins has the associate head football coach role and continues to be a great ambassador of this university.
The Seminoles hired Nebraska's Terrance Knighton as their defensive line coach. Knighton coordinator defensive linemen that were on a top-twenty defensive unit in the country.
It looks like Florida State could be the second coming of the Cornhuskers' defense, with Tony White, Terrance Knighton, and Evan Cooper on the coaching staff now. One of the transfers that makes a ton of sense is defensive end James Williams.
During the 16 career games with the Cornhuskers, he recorded 18 tackles (eight for loss) and seven sacks. Williams had a wonderful relationship with Knighton, where he was a father figure to the defender.
In today's landscape of the transfer portal, prospects want to go where they feel most comfortable. It feels like Williams would be most when he is reunited with Knighton, who he trusts and knows how the 3-3-5 defensive scheme is run.
The defensive end spot becomes a priority subject for Florida State as they hope to be creating havoc for opposing signal-callers. Williams will be visiting the Seminoles' campus on Monday, December 16th, so this could be a speedy process if he likes what he presented.
I believe that the decision comes very fast for Williams since he already knows how his position coach is while also being familiar with the scheme.
