It feels like I’ve been writing about FSU and its need to take a transfer portal quarterback for the 2026 season nonstop. The funny part is that more options are becoming available daily. We wrote about USF quarterback Byrum Brown announcing intentions to enter the transfer portal a few days ago.
He would be a great fit in Gus Malzahn’s offense, but he’ll likely follow his former USF coach to Auburn. However, one player who would be an instant impact type player announced he’ll enter the transfer portal on Friday. It’s UNLV quarterback Anthony Colandrea. Colandrea is a former Virginia Cavalier quarterback who transferred to UNLV after the 2024 season.
NEW: UNLV starting QB Anthony Colandrea plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, @PeteNakos reports.

He had two decent years at UVA, playing as a freshman and sophomore, but saw his production skyrocket at UNLV under former Florida head coach Dan Mullins.
Colandrea completed nearly 66 percent of his passes for nearly 3,500 yards and 23 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. He also totaled nearly 650 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
The interesting thing is he’s originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, and was offered by Gus Malzahn out of high school. Could Colandrea have aspirations to return to his home in the Sunshine State after playing out West? FSU has been tied to Old Dominion’s Colton Joseph, but Colandrea is a better player and has done it against better competition. The transfer portal window will open on January 2nd, and it’ll be imperative to see if FSU can get him on campus. If they can get him on campus (if they pursue him), they should do whatever is possible to make sure he signs.
He has one year of eligibility remaining, which would be a perfect transition for Kevin Sperry to start in 2027.
