FSU FOOTBALL OFFENSE

After the 2-10 debacle of last season, it should be noted that fans never take an opponent lightly. However, the Seminoles are listed as 44.5-point home favorites to Kent State. The program has been on cruise control versus Alabama and East Texas A&M.

There are several players on the roster who have managed to get opportunities for themselves. The coaching staff wants to continue evaluating the squad to see what they have in place.

One of the more fascinating position coaches is the backup quarterback position between redshirt sophomore Brock Glenn and true freshman Kevin Sperry.

QB BATTLE

The offense had a 49-0 lead heading into halftime of the East Texas A&M game. Quarterback Thomas Castellanos has been playing exceptionally well after his first two performances. Some of the college football media have Castellanos listed in a way-too-early Heisman Trophy ballot.

However, the Seminoles won't have the dual-threat signal-caller forever, as he is listed as a senior on the official roster. He would likely get another year of eligibility if he submitted a waiver, since he played five games in his true freshman season at UCF.

Nonetheless, Florida State needs to see what they have behind him. The coaching staff decided to allow Kevin Sperry to enter the game first in relief duty, which forecasts how much they value the youngster. Offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn spent the offseason raving about Sperry. It didn't help that Glenn battled through a preseason injury.

It will be a fascinating development to see who Florida State trots out there when/if the game gets out of hand versus the Golden Flashes. The thought process would be that Sperry is back out there first in relief duty.
