Florida State football recruiting is a roller coaster ride, where they have the 14th-best in the country according to 247Sports Composite. This is the reality of the situation is that the job security of this coaching staff is up in the air.
The Seminoles have a 4-5 overall record (1-5 in conference) this season. This was something that the fan base ever envisioned, especially after defeating Alabama in the opener. Florida State will take on Virginia Tech this weekend in Doak Campbell Stadium.
Head football coach Mike Norvell is trying his best to keep this recruiting class intact. This makes individuals wonder if Florida State will even finish the job in the high school ranks, especially considering the program has made its key acquisitions from the transfer portal.
WILL THERE BE ANY GOOD NEWS IN RECRUITING?
Florida State have a trio of commitments this month with three-star defensive end Chris Carbin, three-star defensive end Franklin Whitley, and three-star safety/linebacker Daylen Green. Does that aspect even matter, if they don't know if Coach Norvell will be in Tallahassee next year?
Some fans thought that it could be a bode of confidence that Norvell's job is safe to 2026. However, player acquisition is something that needs to happen regardless of who the coach is.
The Seminoles did see three-star running back Qwantavius Wiggins commit to a struggling Wisconsin, after their program already has four-star running back Amari Latimer. This is where Florida State is at right now, with the mindset of the recruits.
Sure, Florida State still has five-star cornerback Chauncey Kennon in the fold, but how long will that last? The Seminoles have seen their top commitments flip elsewhere during the Early Signing Period in December. This isn't being a Debbie Downer, but Florida State has to break the mindset of it.
Four-star tight end Heze Kent (Florida commit), three-star defensive end Jarius Rodgers (Syracuse commit), three-star defensive end Kamron Wilson (Syracuse commit), three-star defensive end Damaad Lewis (uncommitted), three-star JUCO defensive end Jalen Anderson (uncommitted), and three-star cornerback Jordan Crutchfield (Kentucky commit) were some targets that they are still going after.
The truth of the matter is that are any of those prospects "game-changers" that will make the Seminoles better. Honestly, this is likely a recruiting class that finishes decently (around 15-18) and they heavily invest in the transfer portal for immediate help.
This is hoping that I am wrong, and Florida State put together a great 2026 recruiting class.
