Will Florida State's newest quarterback commit seeing a substantial rankings bump?

It's possible, as some analysts think he's somewhat underrated.

It was a long road with many twists and turns, but Florida State finally landed a quarterback for the 2027 recruiting cycle. He wasn’t their first option, but the Florida State double legacy has always been in the picture, and he decided to come “home” after decommitting from UCF a few weeks ago and flirting with Rutgers.

Three-star quarterback Logan Flaherty is the classic sneaky, athletic, competitive player with moxy, who’s usually underrated by the recruiting services. He has solid stats with his arm and his legs against solid competition, yet he’s only the No. 726 player and the No. 40 quarterback nationally.

That ranking doesn’t move the needle for Florida State fans tired of hearing about three stars. Can Flaherty see a substantial rankings increase since he’s committed to Florida State? Maybe he’ll go to a camp this summer and show out, influencing some analysts to give him a bump.

Logan Flaherty is probably a bit underrated in my book, and fits Mike Norvell's offense.

One knock on him is his accuracy. He’s completing right over 60 percent of his passes in high school, but some of that is due to his high school offense pushing the ball vertically down the field. That’s probably something that attracted Mike Norvell, plus, he’s able to create and extend plays with his legs. Don’t get it twisted, he’s not Jordan Travis, but he’s quite capable of keeping teams honest or making them pay if they fall asleep with him in the pocket. He has nearly 1,500 rushing yards over the past two seasons, with 24 rushing touchdowns.

Recruiting rankings are influenced by what they project guys to be regarding playing in the NFL. However, the most important aspect is whether the quarterback fits the offensive system at the college they are signing with. Flaherty fits Mike Norvell’s offense just fine and might be more advanced as a passer than Jordan Travis was coming out of high school.

Flaherty has one more high school season to play this fall, and it’s possible he could see a substantial rankings increase if he balls out on Friday nights and leads his team on another deep postseason run or wins a state title. I know Florida State hasn’t had any luck developing high school quarterbacks under Mike Norvell, but Flaherty does have some promise because he fits the system. The biggest question is, will Mike Norvell be at Florida State long enough for it to come to fruition?
