Will 4-star RB commit Byron Louis flip to the arch-rival Florida Gators?
Florida State's 2025 recruiting class is hanging out by a thread. This is because the Seminoles have struggled with their on-the-field product. Unfortunately, there have been other teams across the country that have not had successful seasons and have still recruited well.
This is one of the many reasons why head football coach Mike Norvell had to start gutting his coaching staff. I won't say that Atkins, Fuller, and Dugans were the main issues for recruiting. However, changes had to be made because the Seminoles were not adhering to the standards at Florida State.
The Seminoles' 2025 recruiting class is ranked as the 34th-best according to the 247Sports Composite rankings. I thought it would be a whole lot worse since many of the coaches on staff do not know if they will be in Tallahassee for next season.
This has to be difficult for prospects to process because they do not know who their assistant coaches will be. It is worth mentioning that both arch-rival head football coaches Mario Cristobal and Billy Napier have recruited just fine, even with the uncertainties.
I hate the color orange, and I don't want to give them much credit. However, the facts are the facts. Both have started to take advantage of the Seminoles' struggles on the recruiting trail. One name to monitor as we have to monitor is four-star running back Byron Louis from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida.
Louis visited Gainesville for the Gators' matchup over Ole Miss. It was a great environment as Florida knocked off the Rebels to obtain bowl eligibility. They are starting to pick up steam on the talented running back prospect as the Early Signing Period happens between December 4-6.
With defensive backs, coach Pat Surtain Sr. (Louis's old high school head football coach) interviewing for the Southern Miss head coaching job and the uncertainty of him being here next year, plus the fact that running backs coach David Johnson could be gone as well, I don't blame him for looking elsewhere.
Regardless, I would hate to see a talented prospect go to an arch-rival after being committed to Florida State. Not to say that running back is a huge need, but Louis is a talented prospect who would make the offense high-scoring if he develops in Tallahassee.
However, I do understand the notion that the coaching staff needs to acquire players who will make the team better in 2025, with this season being so bad.
