FSU football had its first fall scrimmage on Tuesday night. It began inside Doak Campbell Stadium but had to move into the indoor practice facility due to lighting and weather.

Mike Norvell spoke with the media following the scrimmage and seemed pleased overall. Thomas Castellanos played well, and the implication is the offense made some plays. The defense had some moments, but made some mental errors that must be cleaned up.

All in all, it was a good first scrimmage to set the tone for the team's annual trip to Jacksonville. All of that sounds good, but the biggest win from the scrimmage was that FSU escaped without any major injuries.

Backup quarterback Brock Glenn was held out of the scrimmage, but it doesn't sound serious. However, his availability this season could be important with Thomas Castellanos's style of play and potential to get banged up.

The team had several players who will likely be key contributors, but they missed most of spring camp. Those players are finally healthy and need the practice reps, especially along the offensive line.

That unit and Castellanos will be the key to how much success FSU has in 2025. I know some folks will point to the defense, and the health on that side of the ball is imperative. Transfer defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins expects to return to "full-go" next week, according to Mike Norvell. He will be a key cog in the trenches with his experience and play-making ability.

The Noles will have another scrimmage next week, and that's going to likely set the depth chart, and there are some positions still up for grabs.

If they can get through fall camp without any major injuries, that would be huge for the potential of the 2025 season.
