In case you missed this over the weekend.
FSU football finished up 'identity week' in Jacksonville with a Sunday scrimmage. The play of Thomas Castellanos was a big story, but it was also the first chance for defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins to get some live reps. Jenkins has been working his way back from a lower-body injury that forced him to miss spring practice.
The Tennessee transfer has the most experience among the defensive linemen that the Seminoles signed out of the transfer portal. If healthy, Jenkins is expected to start and with his size (6-foot-6, 276 pounds), the redshirt junior will play an integral role on the defense because of his ability to line up on the inside or outside in Tony White's 3-3-5 scheme.
Also, Jacob Rizy, a transfer from Harvard, took some live reps during the scrimmage. Rizy is going to be the primary backup at center, and could also serve as a swing tackle if depth gets thin at that position this season.
Expect both players to continue to ramp up their work with 15 practices remaining before the opener against Alabama.
Noles in the NFL: DJU might be working his way onto a roster spot
The preseason week started off with Johnny Wilson doing big things, but there is an interesting story happening in Los Angeles where DJ Uiagalelei is fighting for a roster spot and making the most of the limited opportunities he's getting. Check out this 49-yard bomb Uiagalelei completed to Dalevon Campbell late in a 27-13 win over the Saints.

It was the only pass Uiagalelei attempted. In the Chargers' preseason opener last week, he entered the game in the second half and led Los Angeles on a scoring drive. Will Uiagalelei get more opportunities in the preseason final next Saturday against the 49ers? It's his last chance to impress before final cuts have to be made on August 27.
FB Recruiting: Options at tackle, Thomas officially flips to Gamecocks
There are two major needs left in this recruiting class: running back and offensive tackle. The Amari Thomas watch officially ended when he committed to South Carolina and now the Seminoles staff will try to get Amari Latimer on campus for the Alabama weekend.
As for the offensive tackle search, it seems to be down to in-state prospect Johnnie Jones, currently pledged to UCLA, and legacy prospect Aaron Thomas, who is committed to Ohio State. Both players have taken their official visits to FSU, so now the goal is to get them back on campus. Jones is expected to attend the Alabama game, while Thomas is a possibility to be at the Miami game although he's suggesting otherwise.

BK Recruiting: Loucks is a low-key monster on the trail
Luke Loucks is quietly getting after it on the trail. The Seminoles are a finalist for top-100 guard Brandon Bass Jr., who will be taking his official visit to Tallahassee on the weekend of August 29. He also has four-star forward Jalan Wingfield taking an official visit during Miami weekend (October 4).
It's a smart move for the rookie head coach to work these visits around the biggest weekends for FSU football. This gives these prospects a chance to see Tallahassee when it's really buzzing for a big game.

Wingfield says he has an official visit scheduled with #GeorgiaTech for August 22-24th.
