Florida State football is doing everything it can to make sure they don't have a repeat of the 2024 season. The 2024 season is one fans, players, and coaches all want to forget, even if the rest of the college football world won't let them forget it.

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell has been working hard through both the transfer portal and recruiting to make sure that 2024 doesn't repeat itself, but recruiting isn't always the easiest thing. The Seminoles earned a commitment from four-star safety Tedarius Hughes back in July of 2024, so almost a whole year ago, but now two other ACC schools are making a push to flip the talented high school recruit.

ACC rivals Miami and Syracuse are making a push for the 4-star safety huge, and he has said he wants to be able to weigh his options, even with his commitment to the Seminoles.

Hughes is a Miami, Florida native who, if he chooses Florida State in the end, would still be staying in his home state. He is the No. 32 safety in the Class of 2026 and the No. 50 player in the state of Florida, according to 247Sports.

The Florida native does have official visits set to all three schools, with Florida State being the first, then Miami, and finally Syracuse. Both schools are legitimate contenders for the top safety, but Florida State needs to do everything it can to keep the top defensive player in its program.

The Seminoles would not want to have to face Hughes, a player they once had the commitment to. Miami and Syracuse are the biggest threats to Florida State in the coming years as both have built great programs, especially in 2024, a year Florida State wants to forget.
