SEASON WILL BE HERE BEFORE WE KNOW IT

Florida State football will be taking on the Alabama Crimson Tide in the newly-renovated Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday, August 30th at 3:30 PM EST on ABC. It might seem like a long way away, but we are only 12 Saturdays away from the season opener.

The program wants to turn the page on what was the 2-10 season in 2024. That was not the expectation or standard of a team that is used to competing for conference and national championships.

NEW ROSTER AND COACHING STAFF

Head football coach Mike Norvell had to make massive changes this offseason when he first added six assistant coaches to his staff. Honestly, I didn't know if Coach Norvell would make the move, but it says a lot that he wants to repair the mess that transpired in Tallahassee.

Then he went to the transfer portal and recruiting ranks to ensure that Florida State football had an influx of talent that could compete with the likes of Alabama. I know that the addition is focused around the new pieces, but what about those returning.

In honor of the twelve Saturdays remaining, I wanted to discuss redshirt junior running back Jaylin Lucas and junior defensive back Conrad Hussey since they both wear the No. 12 jersey on the Seminoles' roster.

JAYLIN LUCAS

Running back Jaylin Lucas was someone that I was high on last offseason, given his elite speed and ability to get past opposing defenders in the open field. I thought that the coaching staff was going to utilize the former Indiana transfer all over the place, but he suffered a season-ending injury versus Boston College last year, and now the speedster will have to prove the doubters wrong.

CONRAD HUSSEY

Most of the fan base remembers when the former four-star prospect had the bone-crushing hit versus Virginia Tech in 2023. However, individuals thought that he was going to take another step in 2024, but injuries and inconsistencies plagued him. With veterans Shyheim Brown and Earl Little Jr. in the safety rotation, I wonder how much Hussey plays in 2025. Nonetheless, the talent is there.
